The Importance of Spaying/Neutering

Updated: Mar 9, 2021

There comes a time in a bunnies' life when they need to be altered. For males, it is when the testicles drop, anywhere between 4 and 6 months of age. For females, it is approximately 6 months of age. It is never too late to alter your rabbit and it is very important to do so. Here are a couple of reasons why you would want to alter your rabbit:

1) They live healthier, longer lives: Female rabbits have an absurdly high rate of getting uterine cancer by the age of 4 (~75-80%). In both sexes it reduces stress caused by hormones and sexual frustration; stress can lead to medical issues.

2) They make better companions: Ridding them of those pesky hormones can really help when bonding with your bunny; either with another bunny or with YOU!

3) They *tend* to exhibit destructive behaviors less and tend to be less aggressive around you and other animals.

4) Your bunny can safely have a friend! With no hormones dictating strong territorial urges, it makes it easier and safer to have a second (or third) bunny!
